Contact

Jo Baker, Active Workforce Project Manager

Leisure Services Team. The programme comprises of a variety of physical activity sessions aimed at adults in Solihull with busy working lives. Sessions take place at a number of locations throughout Solihull including workplace meeting rooms, community halls and fitness facilities. The majority of sessions take place during the lunchtime period or after work to make it as convenient as possible for the working population and the local community to stay active.

Why is keeping active so important?

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that people who lead active lifestyles are less likely to suffer from illness and more likely to live longer. Exercise not only makes you physically fitter, it also improves your mental health and general sense of wellbeing.

Why have we developed a workplace physical activity programme?

The working population spends up to 40% of their lives in the workplace while of working age, but many jobs involve long periods of time sitting and being inactive.  Active @ Work aims to encourage adults of working age in Solihull to become more active by providing opportunities to participate in physical activity at convenient times and locations throughout Solihull.  Active @ Work also offers support to businesses in Solihull who would like to promote physical activity to their employees.

Do you have any ideas for new sessions we could add to our programme?

We welcome suggestions for new sessions and venues. Does your office have a spare meeting room that could be used to host a class at lunchtime or after work? Do you and your colleagues often talk about taking up a new sport or setting up a workplace competition but don’t know how to go about it? If so, please get in touch.
